THE REPUBLIC OF CANADA

Artist Statement

It has been my belief for the past decade that this country that I love, has to resolve its problems of which the most fundamental; full independence from England, and resolving Quebec's place in the federation. Only then can a more consistent and positive vision be implemented.

To this end and venturing into a new media: silk screen (I am a mixed media artist), I have begun this series. As a starting point, I have begun with a construction made in 1997, The Republic of Canada. This work using a photocopy of an early portrait of Queen Victoria, who reigned during confederation (1867), has become a vehicle for satire, political, and social comment. Towards the end of the series poetic statements are included.

About the work: (32 Pieces)
All Works are silk screen first, then sanded and printed again. Pencil and acrylic paint are added (the exception is #26 which is just sanded). Two of the works, #21 and #32 have limited editions of 5.
